Strengthening Local Resilience through International Partnership: Saint-Brieuc and Ovruch Continue Their Cooperation

The partnership between Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomération (France) and LDA Ovruch continues to deliver tangible results in support of the Ovruch community and its long-term energy resilience.

As part of this cooperation, Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomération has offered a wood-fired boiler that was recently removed from one of its public buildings. Following discussions with the Municipality of Ovruch, the equipment has been identified as highly suitable for installation in a local kindergarten, where it will help improve the building’s energy efficiency and strengthen the reliability of its heating system.

“The partnership between Ovruch and Saint-Brieuc is an example of how trust, mutual support and a shared vision for the future help us find practical solutions even in the most challenging times, – said Ivan Korud, Mayor of Ovruch.- This project will strengthen our community’s energy resilience and ensure a more secure future for our children. We greatly appreciate the support of our French friends and are confident that our cooperation will continue to benefit both communities.”

The equipment has now been carefully dismantled, protected for transport and packed on pallets. Both partners are actively exploring logistical solutions, including support through the ALDA network and other international partners, to organise its delivery to Ukraine.

ALDA warmly thanks Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomération for this generous gesture of solidarity and its continued support for the people of Ovruch. This initiative demonstrates how long-term international partnerships can move beyond dialogue and lead to concrete actions that strengthen local communities.

This initiative reflects the shared desire of both partners to work together in developing practical and sustainable solutions for Ukrainian communities affected by the challenges of war. While renewable energy remains a strategic priority, complementary technologies such as biomass heating can also play an important role in ensuring energy security for essential public services.
